About Voicemale

Voicemale is a men’s community choir based in Fremantle, Western Australia.
The group was formed in 2005 by Matthew Clements and is directed by Digby Hill.
Voicemale’s repertoire ranges far and wide and includes songs from the world’s folk traditions, modern and popular music, as well as original songs composed by members of the group. Sometimes familiar, sometimes quirky and surprising, our songs are always selected and arranged with care, and are performed with energy, conviction and humour. Our themes cover issues relevant to the modern sensitive bloke:
- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
- social justice
- male identity and gender issues
- observations and reflections on the wide world around us
- celebration and lamentation
- connection with our inner feelings, and the expression thereof
Our “trademark” sound includes a mixture of rich, warm male timbres along with a smattering of choreography and body percussion. Our performances are always accompanied by a healthy dose of chaos, movement and wit.
Voicemale have performed at a number of events between 2005 and 2009, including:
- National Folk Festival, Canberra 2007, in which we were finalists in the festival competition.
- Denmark Festival of Voice , 2008, 2006.
